It has been mentioned in the press for many months now that the driving test will be changing. Up till now there has been rumour and speculation about what will change.
The Driving Standards Agency has decided to consult on these changes and ask all of those who will be affected by the change, Learners, Parents and Driving Instructors for their views. This consultation process will last until September 8th, 2008.
Some of the proposed changes are:
• A star rating system for instructors to help pupils chose the best instructor.
• Ensuring that the Instructor or parent presenting a candidate for test, signs a test readiness certificate.
• Splitting the test into parts, e.g. making the manoeuvres a separate test
• Add independent driving to the test by asking the pupil to follow a route to a particular destination using the available road signs and local knowledge.
