Our children are precious. Teaching them to drive brings mixed emotions. We don’t want to stop them from progressing but we are worried about their safety.
When we learnt to drive cars were different. They did not have many of the Eco Features present in today's vehicles. You may remember being taught that using the gears to slow the car down was the right way and that 4th and 5th gears should be used wherever possible to assist in fuel economy. Well, things have moved on a bit since those days and we no longer teach those methods.
Times have changed and, as a consequence, many of my pupils say to me that their parents have difficulty understanding why they do certain things when they are driving.
Some of the common problems are that parents do not understand the use or benefit of Block Gear Changing and why 3rd gear is far better than using a higher gear on a 30 mph road . Naturally this can lead to some tense situations and also confusion when a pupil is receiving two different messages.
It is for this reason that I thought I would put something on my web site to help you understand the benefits of the above and why your child is taught differently to how you were.
